Prior to his burial, he was lain in state at the family home in Bantama, next to the Bantama Parliament, on April 27 and 28, 2022. He passed away in 2022 and was buried in the same year.

On the July 25 episode of his program, the host of Good Evening Ghana said that the late brother had given their late mother an amount of US$800,000, which she then transferred to Cecilia Dapaah with the consent of the other siblings.

“This is Nana Akwasi Essan II, a chief and the brother of Cecilia Dapaah. He tragically passed away at the young and ripe age of 60, and shortly after that, the mother also passed away.
