In response to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertion that he had defeated him twice in elections, former President John Dramani Mahama has hit back.

Speaking on the KSM show, Mr. Mahama claimed that Dr. Bawumia’s claim was incorrect.

He claims to have defeated me in the past and that he knows how to defeat me. I observed that he had defeated me twice and knew how to do it again. However, I’ve never faced off against him, and he’s never appeared on a presidential ballot.

“How are you claiming to have defeated me? I’ve never opposed you in a presidential race. I ran against Nana Addo in 2012, defeated him, and he went on to win in 2016 and 2020.

“So even though Nana Addo and I competed, he won twice to my one. It’s just that he won’t run again, but I’m confident that I would have tied if he had,” the former president emphasized.

When Dr. Bawumia told New Patriotic Party delegates to choose him as their party’s flag bearer for the 2024 presidential election because he could easily defeat Mr. Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Mahama responded.

Dr. Bawumia is competing against nine other candidates for the position of NPP flagbearer. The number will be reduced to 5 at a super delegates conference scheduled for August 26, 2023, by a few chosen party delegates.

On November 4, 2023, the party will make its final decision among the remaining five candidates in the main convention.
