Later on Sunday, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement claiming that four males were detained on March 28 after the Axim Divisional Police Patrol Unit reported being attacked by a gang.

The police claim that they also searched Kwame Asare’s home and found several firearms and other materials there.

The Axim Divisional Police patrol team stated that a gang attacked them on March 9 and took some of the police officers’ mobile phones as well as the magazine of a service rifle.

“As soon as the report was received, an intelligence operation was started to apprehend the culprits.

“On March 28, 2023, four men—Kojo Siah alias Mozey; Emmanuel Mensah alias Kofi Asamoah; Maxwell Cudjoe; and Agyabu Haruna Dissawu—were detained for their alleged involvement in the incident after roughly three weeks of the intelligence operation.

“Three pump-action shotguns were found after a search was performed at the home of Kwame Ato Asare Ani, the primary suspect, who is currently at large.

Moreover, eight reloaded BB cartridges, a machete, and a pump-action shotgun were found in the suspect’s unregistered Honda CRV car. Two live, reloaded BB cartridges and one unregistered motorcycle were also taken from the accused, according to the police statement.

According to the statement, the police learned about the footage of the altercation between some of their officers and the arrested gang in which they were pleading with them regarding an extortion charge.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has subsequently been tasked with investigating the extortion claim, the statement claims.

The gang’s leader is heard shouting at a group of police officers in the aforementioned video, claiming, “You requested me to show you something, and I presented it to you. Now that I ask you to leave the car with me, you insistence that I am being sent away.
Where did you direct me to? We gave you everything when you came to the site to demand payment. I then requested that you drop me off at the car, but you insisted on sending me.
