Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the former chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was defeated at the Saturday, December 17, 2022, National Delegates’ Congress held at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Greater Accra Region, according to a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.
Afrifa Yamoah Ponko claims that the delegates dissented from the outgoing National Chairman due to his interactions with some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He emphasised that the outgoing chairman’s leadership had just not been well received by the delegates.
He emphasised that “the delegates were determined to show him (Ofosu Ampofo) the exit.”
He declared, “We passionately registered our displeasure against his administration by casting a large number of votes against him.
Some of us anticipated that Ofosu would lose to the present Chairman, he continued.
He mentioned that the damage the outgoing chairman had done to the party during the 2020 general elections had not yet won over the delegates.
He clarified that the party’s mishandling by the former National Chairman was the cause of the delegates’ ire.
He charged that the outgoing National Chairman’s previous NDC administration had been socialising with the NPP.
Delegates, according to Mr. Ponko, “at the congress grounds were only waiting for the whistle to be blown by the Electoral Commission so they could release their fury on Ofosu-administration.” Ampofo’s
According to him, the vote against Ofosu-Ampofo was a protest vote against the chairman’s management of the party’s operations.
