On June 8, 2023, when he becomes 70, Justice Jones Victor Dotse, the Supreme Court of Ghana’s acting Chief Justice, will step down from his position.

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, a ceremony honoring the departing Supreme Court Justice was held at the court’s Accra location.

 

In a speech at the event, the Chief Justice nominee Gertrude Araba Torkornoo praised Justice Dotse for using the principles of justice and fairness in his work.

She continued by saying that the robbery of state funds and the abuse of public power, both of which he battled vigorously, greatly enraged the retiring judge.

To understand Justice Dotse’s fight for justice for the nation’s poor, she said, “one only has to encounter his desperate quest to overcome abuse with justice in decisions such as Martin Alamisi Amidu vs. The Attorney General, Waterville Holdings (BVI) Limited, and Alfred Agbesi Woyome, and Board of Governance Achimota School vs. Nii Aku Nortey II, Platinium Equity Limited, and Land Commission.
