The main source of contention was GPHA security’s insistence on searching the GIS officers following their inspection responsibilities.
The situation worsened when an Immigration Service inspector angrily rejected the request, stating that although their baggage might be inspected, the individuals were not subject to inspection. This further highlighted the inappropriateness of a male officer searching for a female officer.
There was a violent exchange of insults and physical altercations as a result of the GPHA security staff’s hostility and resistance to the GIS officer’s forceful stance. Unfortunately, the altercation escalated to the point that an officer known only as AICO II Boadu tore off his uniform.
