ASHYIREM ROYAL GATE PRESS CONFERENCE
First Off
The Youth of Offinso organized a press conference on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, to endorse Nana Serwaa Nyarko and the Ofinso kingmakers’ nomination of Dr. K. K. Sarpong as the Omanhene of Offinso, following Nana Wiafe Akenten III.
Thank you to Opanin Owusu Afriyie, the spokesperson, and the other people that interacted with the media on behalf of the Ashyirem Royal Gate. Offinsoman is appreciative of your efforts to bring attention to several important issues that affect our citizens, Ghanaians, and the global community.
We, the Ashyirem Royal Gate members, have welcomed you to this place today in order to properly inform you on pertinent and important issues. We appreciate your honoring our invitation, ladies and gentlemen of the media in particular. I extend a warm greeting to you. I’ll now speak to you in English while the other family presenters translate it into Twi, and then we’ll answer your questions.
Due Process was used in selecting Dr. K. K. Sarpong
As everyone is aware, Offinsohemaa and the kingmakers have chosen Dr. Koduah Sarpong, a member of the Royal family, to ascend the Wiafe Stool in accordance with Asante customs and traditions. After all, stool elders have also received the traditional ‘aseda’ from the chosen candidate, in addition to the Kingmakers.
At the moment, Gyaasehene, Benkumhene, Nifahene, and Akyeamehene are the kingmakers. Even though they are not kingmakers, several subchiefs, such Saamanhene and Asonahene, who are the surviving representatives of deceased kingmakers, and Akyeame, were also granted “aseda.” For reasons that are unclear, the aforementioned sub chiefs—who are not kingmakers—have continued to identify as such in the Asanteman Council. Although Otumfuo’s Akyeame are aware of this, they have chosen to ignore it.
