Richard Ofori’s error versus Mozambique was documented in the official 2023 AFCON documentary.

“Maxwell Baako has spoken with Richard Ofori. They still get along well because they were teammates at Wa All Stars. Baako claims that Ofori informed him that the ball was frequently bouncing because of the poor pitch.

“He wanted to catch the ball to stop it from becoming a corner kick because he thought it had come off one Ghanaian player.” A few players pleaded with him to stop, but before he could get out of it, the ball bounced onto the field, causing him to scrape his hands and giving the team a corner kick. It wasn’t intentional, he claimed.

After participating in three Group B games, the Black Stars concluded the 2023 AFCON with one victory, two draws, and one loss.

The first group encounter ended in a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, while the second and last group matches ended in 2-2 draws with Egypt and Mozambique, respectively.

The Black Stars exited the AFCON group stage twice, with just two points and a goal deficit. They had already experienced this same fate in the 2021 competition.
