The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) National Executive Committee (NEC) has unanimously approved Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s candidacy as John Dramani Mahama’s running partner.
“Naana Jane is God-fearing, a distinguished scholar, a conscientious public servant, and a role model,” tweeted Mahama shortly after the endorsement.
This is the second time that former President Mahama and the former vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, who also serves as the minister of education, will be running together on the NDC ticket in a significant election.
Prior to her selection, a number of individuals were floated as possible running mates: former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah; former Finance Minister and Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Kwabena Duffour; former Chief Executive of Tema Oil Refinery and BOST Mr. Kwame Awuah Darko; former Mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu; and NDC Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey Constituency Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings.
