Following a BBC exposé, YouTube shuts down TB Joshua’s Emmanuel TV channel.

In cooperation with the BBC, Open Democracy looked into the internet material on Emmanuel TV.

At least 50 “abusive” films were found on YouTube thanks to the investigation, and the site was quickly notified of them. As a result, YouTube suspended the account on January 29 due to alleged hate speech infractions.

TB Joshua was well-known for his “healing” activities; many services claimed to have demonstrated his ability to heal the physically ill and physically disadvantaged. TB Joshua passed away in 2021. Former members of the church have since refuted these allegations nonetheless. Videos showing people with mental health disorders being shackled, cases of medical misinformation, and smear efforts against women who came forward with allegations of TB Joshua’s alleged sexual abuse were among the materials that Open Democracy exposed.

Along with YouTube, Multi Choice, a South African corporation running DStv and GOTv satellite services, terminated Emmanuel TV’s satellite station on January 17. It used to be one of the most popular Christian networks in the world, reaching millions of people.
