Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has slammed the government for omitting the 24-Hour Economy policy from the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Afenyo-Markin expressed disappointment with the policy’s absence, which was a key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress.

The 24-Hour Economy policy, as the name suggests, aims to promote continuous production of goods and services, assuming existing local and international markets ¹. However, the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, failed to mention it in the budget presentation, leaving Afenyo-Markin questioning the government’s commitment to job creation.
“The youth of this country have been waiting for this policy, and now the Minister says it will be brought later. Were all the job promises just empty words?” Afenyo-Markin asked.
The budget presentation was in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921). Despite this, the omission of the 24-Hour Economy policy has raised concerns about the government’s priorities and commitment to its campaign promises.
