Victor Smith, a prominent member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a warning that the party will eliminate Johnson Asiedu Nketiah as General Secretary if his bid for the position of National Chairman puts the future of the party in jeopardy.

After Nketiah insisted on challenging Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the current chairman of the NDC, he issued his warning.

The former UK and Ireland High Commissioner claimed that he, the party’s Council of Elders, and even John Dramani Mahama, the party’s 2020 flagbearer, tried on different occasions to convince Nketiah not to run against Ofosu Ampofo, but he wouldn’t budge.

“He contacted me, and I advised him to stay because that would generate issues at the party, but he didn’t heed my advice. When John Mahama called, he ignored it. On December 14, 2022, Victor Smith remarked, “He was reported to the Council of Elders and they spoke to both of them but he didn’t listen.

After serving as the General Secretary of the NDC for nearly two decades, he could not understand why Nketiah felt the need to ascend to the position of national chairman at all costs.

“You served as General Secretary for 17 years; what is it that you now wish to do that you were unable to do then?

He questioned, as reported by 3news.com, “Is it that he wants us to go to opposition so that he becomes a head of the party?”

He did, however, add that if Nketiah were to win the national chairmanship, the party would embrace him and cooperate with him.
