During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on January 30, Sam George outlined plans to harness technology and common sense to streamline the process.

George, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, acknowledged the shortcomings of past re-registration efforts, promising a more logical and seamless approach. He emphasised that this re-registration would prioritise the interests of Ghanaians by ensuring secure, dependable, and efficient telecom services.

The nominee’s strategy involves leveraging digital solutions to facilitate a convenient and hassle-free experience for all stakeholders. This approach would not only enhance national security but also counter fraud, ultimately building a more robust and inclusive telecommunications infrastructure.

Key aspects of George’s plan include:

– Streamlining the re-registration process: By utilising technology, George aims to minimise the bureaucratic hurdles that led to lengthy queues in previous exercises.
– Enhancing national security: The re-registration process would incorporate robust security measures to prevent fraud and ensure the integrity of the telecom ecosystem.
– Promoting digital inclusion: George’s strategy prioritises the development of a more inclusive telecommunications infrastructure, bridging the digital divide, and fostering economic growth.
– Fostering efficiency and innovation: The ministry, under George’s leadership, would focus on driving efficiency and innovation in digital initiatives, including SIM card registration.

By adopting a more logical and technology-driven approach, George is confident that the re-registration process would be more effective, efficient, and convenient for all stakeholders. As he stated, “We will do a proper SIM re-registration again, and this time, there will be no queues because common sense will prevail, and we will use technology to do it
