
This year, China will sell about 60% of the world’s EVs, and roughly 45% of all cars sold there will be electric vehicles. The IEA predicts that by 2030, nearly one in three vehicles on Chinese roads will be electric.
In contrast, it was predicted that in the US and the EU, nearly one in five would experience it.
According to Birol, “both the auto industry and the energy sector will be significantly impacted by this shift.”
By the end of the decade, there should be 15 million public EV charging stations globally, thanks to existing government initiatives, a roughly fourfold increase from the previous year.
According to the IEA, “careful planning and policy support are essential to ensure that greater demand for electricity from charging does not overstretch electricity grids.”
