It has come to light that nursing students have not received their monthly stipend for the past two years.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has demanded that vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reimburse the allowance to the nursing trainees.
“Nana Addo and Bawumia said they will pay the allowances. I beg you, Nana Addo and Bawumia, if you’re hearing me, we are here in Krobo Nursing Training School. They say two years now you haven’t paid them their allowances. Let the allawa come,” Mahama said on Sunday, November 19, 2023, while on his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region.
In order to fulfill his 2016 electioneering campaign commitment, Nana Addo initiated the reinstatement of the nurses’ and midwifery trainees’ allowances in Sunyani in 2017.
Nursing students fiercely opposed the allowance, which was eliminated by the former National Democratic Congress (NDC), voicing their displeasure over the challenges it had caused them.
