The firms that run Trump Tower and other prized properties in the former US president’s real estate holdings are to be taken over by a receiver appointed by the court, under Judge Engoron’s decision. Currently, the move is stopped by an appeals court.
In addition, last week the judge fined the former president $5,000 for disobeying a gag order and failing to take down an online joke about a court clerk.
This civil trial does not put Mr. Trump in danger of going to jail, but the judge has threatened to put him in jail if he disobeys the court order once more.
He has consistently denied any misconduct and maintained that his assets were undervalued.
Cohen was also sued by Mr. Trump in the past, when he was charged with “spreading falsehoods” and breaching a confidentiality agreement.
A Trump representative stated that the case will be refiled at a later time, despite the fact that it was blocked earlier this month.
