“Almighty Rwanda is 48.7% and we sometimes hail Rwanda as the big boy of Africa, but we have way more so we have more in terms of electricity capacity, hydro, thermal, and renewables put together,” he said.

The government has created a draft electric vehicle (EV) policy through the Ministry of Transportation in order to decarbonize the transportation industry in accordance with international obligations and the National Energy Transition Plan 2022.

This policy attempts to establish norms, principles, and control systems to regulate the usage of electric vehicles throughout the nation.

The Ghanaian public needs to prepare for the arrival of electric vehicles, according to the deputy minister of transportation.

“A number of them are already in town, and since we do not yet have a policy, it is imperative that we move quickly.Whether we like it or not, electric vehicles are coming, so we had better be ready for them, he said.

Mr. Hassan Tampuli added that there is an alternative for owners to replace their internal combustion engines (ICE) with conventional engines or electric motors that are powered by rechargeable batteries to power electric vehicles, thus all vehicles with ICEs will not be phased out.
