Ashyirem Royal Gate: Otumfuo is making every effort to prevent Dr. K. K. Sarpong from becoming Offinsohene.

Is this not against the basic tenets upon which Asanteman was established and developed? Where is the saying “ka bi na menka bi” found? At all times, Asanteman should treat all of its citizens fairly.

We respectfully implore Otumfuo to let his will triumph rather than pursue a personal grudge against anyone. In order to honor the Golden Stool and in accordance with his own pledge, justice should instead be served to all kinds of people, the statement read.

The committee added that the Asantehene lacked the authority to enstool an Omani chief, or supreme chief.

“In line with Asante customs and traditions, which and often hammered by Otumfuo himself, he (Otumfuo) does not select and enstool any Omanhene. This is also the spirit of the Asante Confederacy, which protects the identity of each paramountcy.

Otumfuo and the Asanteman Council are invited to clarify any ambiguities during the enstoolment process, but they must refrain from undermining a procedure that has completed the entire process flawlessly.

Days before his departure to the United States, on April 28, 2022, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, denied Offinsohene Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko’s request to accept Dr. Sarpong as her choice to ascend the Offinso stool, telling her to go and do the right thing as required by custom and tradition.

The late Nana Wiafe Akenten II, the paramount chief of Offinso, was chosen by the kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area to succeed him when he went to join his ancestors.
