Three players with Ghanaian ancestry will represent the Netherlands at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Jeremie Frimpong, Memphis Depay, and Cody Gakpo are among the 26 players on the Dutch national team’s 26-man roster for the competition, which is set to start in November.

However, Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, who is also of Ghanaian ancestry, was absent from Friday’s roster announcement by coach Louis van Gaal.

In 18 appearances in all competitions, Frimpong has scored five goals while playing usually right back but also right wing back.

The son of a Ghanaian man, Cody Gakpo, has been outstanding this season. In total, the PSV forward has 18 games with 13 goals and 14 assists.

Despite playing less this year, Barcelona sensation Memphis Depay is set to spearhead the Dutch attack.

Ghana made repeated unsuccessful attempts to persuade the players to change their nationalities.

In the group stage, the Netherlands will compete against Senegal, Qatar, and Ecuador while Ghana will face off against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
