Mubarak Wakaso’s goal was the difference as Ghana began their quest to reach Qatar 2022 World with a win.

Here is how we rated the performance of CK Akonnor’s team:

Richard Ofori Antwi – 5

The Orlando Pirates shot-stopper was barely tested but responded well when he needed in the dying embers of the game by blocking a goal-bound shot.

He will be hoping to put up a solid display when Ghana takes on South Africa in the second game.

Andy Yiadom – 5

The Reading man played with his usual energy and power but barely made an impact in the game.

Abdul Rahman Baba – 5

Another Reading man. Played well in the first half but his final ball often was missing. Still an improvement on his former showing.

Daniel Amartey – 6

Impressive and commanding performance from the Leicester City man, now making the centre back position his own.

Alexander Djiku – 6.5

Commanding performance from Djiku and he will be hoping that he has done enough to be considered as a key defender for the Black Stars.

Mubarak Wakaso – 5

He was the engine of the team as he has always been and got a goal for his effort. Wakaso’s feistiness and energy was the driving force of this team.

Mohammed Iddrisu Baba – 5.5

Was efficient but not spectacular and kept winning the ball well without necessarily moving it well enough.

Kamaldeen Sulemana – 5

Not the best of outings for the Rennes man on what was supposed to be his big day in the national team.

Jeffrey Schlupp – 4

Another performance for Jeffrey to forget in the national team. Started slowly and was injured within an hour.

Andre Ayew – 5

Not the best of outings for the Ghana captain. Did not get a lot of services and also did not make the most of the ones he had.

Jordan Ayew – 5

The Crystal Palace man ran all evening but wasn’t as clinical or stationary as the team would like. Needs to start scoring to have a good qualification campaign.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh – 5

Made a good impression on his debut and had some nice touches to show that he’s one who can grow if given the opportunity.

Yaw Yeboah – 5.5

Full of energy and pace. Instantly tested the opponents with a great shot and never slowed down the play. Impressed massively in what was a generally lethargic performance for many.

Emmanuel Lomotey – 5

Replaced Wakaso in the second half and kept things simple and moving.

Joel Fameyeh – Not enough time to be rated as he was introduced in the 9th minute of the game.
