Anas will find no corruption at MUSIGHA – Bessa Simons
Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has said investigative journalist Anas will find no acts of corruption against MUSIGHA if he should embark on an undercover project with the Union.
“Anas should try an investigation at MUSIGHA. Apart from the fact that he may be wasting his time, there is no money at MUSIGHA, there’s no money there. Who is going to take bribe? The person you are going to take bribe from wants money from you,” he told Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier) on Accra 100.5FM’s Entertainment Capital.
Elaborating further, Mr Simons was of the view that “Anas will come and waste the money he will be giving out”.
There have been several accusations by some entertainment personalities of possible mismanagement and embezzlement of funds at MUSIGA.
In its 2012 budget report, read in November 2011, the government allotted GHS 2 million to MUSIGA. MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffuor, popularly called Obuor, has suffered intense criticisms over the use of the money provided by the government.
There have been several other accusations with critics demanding a change in administration.
However, Mr Simons insists: “People will be disappointed (if Anas should come there for any investigative purposes)”.
He believes on the contrary that the applause will rather be loud for MUSIGA if such an investigation is carried out.
“I think at the end of the day, they will say we have done a great job and so the government should find some money and pay us,” he emphasised.
He added that music plays an important role to the development of the country and encouraged government to regularly earmark funds for the Union.
“I feel MUSIGA is at a stage, for the work they have done, government should make sure every year MUSIGHA gets an allocation of money from the budget to run the association because music plays an important role in Ghana”, He said.
